The Innovator Founder visa replaced the former Innovator visa in April 2023, offering experienced entrepreneurs a route to establish innovative businesses in the UK.

What is the Innovator Founder Visa?

This visa is for experienced business people who want to set up or run an innovative business in the UK. Unlike its predecessor, no minimum investment funds are required.

• Duration: Initial 3 years, extendable
• Settlement: Eligible for ILR after 3 years

Eligibility Requirements

Endorsement:

• Business idea must be endorsed by approved body
• Business must be innovative, viable, and scalable
• You must be actively involved in day-to-day operations

English Language:

• CEFR Level B2 (IELTS 5.5 in all components)

Financial Requirements:

• £1,270 maintenance funds (held for 28 days)
• Must show business is genuine and innovative

Business Requirements

Your business must demonstrate:

1. Innovation: New or improved offering vs competitors
2. Viability: Realistic growth plans and market knowledge
3. Scalability: Potential to grow and create employment

Endorsing Bodies

Approved endorsing bodies include:

• Tech Nation
• Various accelerators and incubators
• University enterprise programs
• Venture capital firms

Application Process

1. Develop Business Plan: Create detailed, innovative business proposal
2. Seek Endorsement: Apply to endorsing body
3. Receive Endorsement Letter: Valid for 3 months
4. Submit Visa Application: Online application with supporting documents
5. Biometrics: Attend appointment
6. Receive Decision: Usually within 3 weeks

Settlement Requirements

After 3 years, you can apply for ILR if:

• Endorsed body confirms business achieved milestones
• Business has significant achievements
• Meet English and continuous residence requirements
